Home Remedies for Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

Bruxism or Teeth Grinding Menu

Bruxism or teeth grinding is not a disorder rather it is a bad habit that not only effects teeth and gums but also affects your complete body. If patient is grinding his teeth at night then he is not getting full amount of sleep which is mandatory for a fit and healthy body, also it disturbs other family members. If you are aware of the fact that you are having this habit then do not avoid this otherwise situation can become worse. Consult a doctor or dentist for treatment. You can also try some home remedies, such as:

Apple, Carrot, and Cauliflower: You can chew any of these vegetables before going to sleep at night. Chewing is a good exercise for teeth and gums. These fruits and vegetables also calm your mouth before sleep and thus reduce the chances of bruxism or teeth grinding at night.

Warm Washcloth: Keep a warm wash cloth on your face for sometime before going to bed. It relaxes your jaw muscles and thus reduces the chances of teeth clenching.

Warm Massage and Warm Bath: Teeth grinding can also occur because of working for so long as it can cause stress because of which clenching habit develops. To avoid this habit take warm water bath for 15 to 20 minutes before going to bed. Massage is also helpful in this disorder. Massaging your body after warm water bath is helpful in preventing grinding habits as it makes you stress free that helps you to take a good sleep at night.

Sleep on your back: Lying down on your sides also increases the chances of teeth grinding habit. So it is suggested to lie down on your back at night.

Milk: A glass of hot milk is also helpful in teeth grinding problem. Always avoid alcohol before going to bed as it can lead to clenching of teeth.

Breathing Techniques: Practice some breathing exercises before going to bed. As these exercises are helpful in relaxing the body muscles including muscles of jaw, you can enjoy a good sleep at night that saves you from teeth grinding.
