Introduction

Tinnitus is an ear related disorder in which patient experiences ringing sound in ears. In this disorder not only patients hear sounds but other people do not. Tinnitus is not a serious disorder but it can cause hearing loss.

Causes of Tinnitus

The mojor causes of tinnitus are:

  • The main reason of tinnitus is the damage to internal ear due to which microscopic nerve endings are affected very badly.
  • According to scientists, Tinnitus can be an after effect of several ear disorders. Listening very loud music can also cause this ear disorder.
  • Long term intake of drugs such as aspirin, quinine and some antibiotics can also cause tinnitus.
  • Damage to internal ear because of any kind of injury can cause tinnitus.
  • There are some jaw related disorders that can become a cause of tinnitus. Infected jaw produces some noises that are dangerous for internal ear and if internal ear gets affected then it can give rise to tinnitus.
  • Because of any reason, if the middle ear's bones become stiff then it can be a cause of tinnitus.
  • Any damage to eardrum can also lead to development of this disorder`.
  • Ear infection is also a big cause of tinnitus. It reduces the ability of ear to hear outside noises due to which there are more chances of occurrence of this disorder.
  • Excessive secretion of ear wax can cause several ear infections and can also cause inflammation in the ear membranes due to which you can suffer from tinnitus.
  • High blood cholesterol level is one of the major causes of tinnitus. Due to high cholesterol level in blood the arteries that supplies oxygen and blood to ear gets clogged due to which tinnitus can occur.
  • Food stuffs like chocolate and cheese can also trigger tinnitus. Drinking red wine is also associated with occurrence of tinnitus. Presence of sodium salt in food stuffs beyond a certain limit can give rise to tinnitus problem.
  • Stress is not directly associated with tinnitus disorder but it worsens the case.

Symptoms of Tinnitus

The major symptoms of tinnitus are:

  • The patient can hear whistling, buzzing and other noises. The sound can be so loud like roaring of an ocean.
  • Headache.
  • Pain in ear.
  • Dizziness.
