Stress - Introduction
Definition:
It is a "nonspecific response of the body to a demand." Stress is when you are worried about getting laid off your job, or worried about having enough money to pay your bills. In fact, stress is synonymous with worry. If it is something that makes you worry, then it is stress.
Stress releases powerful neurochemicals and hormones that prepare us for action. These chemical substances trigger a series of responses that gives the body extra energy: blood-sugar levels rise, the heartbeat speeds up and blood pressure increases. If we don't take action, the stress response can lead to health problems.
It comes from mental or emotional activity, as well as physical activity. It is unique and personal to each of us. So personal, in fact, that what may be relaxing to one person may be stressful to another. You may be emotionally distressed from "doing nothing.
