Definition:Menopause is the time in a woman's life when her periods ceases and she can't have children any more. Menopause is a stage of the human female reproductive cycle that occurs as the ovaries stop producing estrogen, causing the reproductive system to gradually shut down. It is a stage of life during which a woman passes from the reproductive to the non reproductive stage and she experiences the cessation of menstruation.The period marked by the natural and permanent cessation of menstruation, occurring usually between the ages of 45 and 55. The medical definition of menopause is the absence of menstruation for 12 months. Menopause also occurs when a woman's uterus and ovaries are surgically removed. The time in a woman's life when menstrual periods permanently stop; it is also called the "change of life." It is the opposite of menarche.
