Indigestion Menu

Introduction

Indigestion is a problem in which digestion of the food does not occurs properly. It is not a very serious problem. The problem can be easily treated using some medicines which you can get easily from drug stores without any prescription.

Causes Of Indigestion

There are a number of causes that leads to indigestion. Some of these are:

Stomach Acid: Stomach secretes a strong acid that helps in digestion of food. There is a mucus layer that lies below the stomach, intestine and the oesophagus that restricts entry of this acid in these organs. Any damage occurring to this layer leads to the flow of this acid in these organs causing indigestion.

Stomach Ulcer: The ulcer in digestive tract is one of the main causes of indigestion. These ulcers are the result of overeating, fast and junk foods, eating food stuffs containing fat, eating too fast etc. Swallowing extra air while eating can lead to belching and bloating disorders which are related with the occurrence of indigestion. Some medicines can also cause stomach upset or indigestion.

Drinks: Alcoholic drinks are responsible for the occurrence of indigestion. So these must be avoided if anyone is suffering from stomach upset. Drinks containing caffeine can also cause indigestion.

Stress: Stress is also an important factor that is associated with indigestion disorder however it is not a direct cause but it can cause some hormonal changes in digestive system that can cause abdominal pain.

Bacterial Infection: Bacterial infection can also cause indigestion. Helicobacter priori or H. Priori simply is a bacterium that can cause gastritis problems. Helicobacter can cause stomach ulcer which is the main cause of indigestion. This bacterium can also cause stomach cancer in some people.

Emotional Upset: The state of mind also effects digestive system as the later is indirectly related with our nervous system. People who are on depression and anxiety treatment generally complain about their digestive system. Therefore an emotional upset can cause stomach upset.

Gallstones: It is also a main cause of indigestion as it blocks the small intestinal tract. Gallstones can lead to problems such as stomach cramps, abdominal pain etc.
