Major Causes, Reasons and Symptoms of Gallstone Disorder

Gallstones Menu

Causes

Gallstone is a digestive disorder and it is of two types. The first one is the cholesterol gallstone and other one is the pigmented gallstone. Its main cause is the over secretion of cholesterol in bile ducts.

The Reasons for the extra secretion of cholesterol that causes Gallstone Disorder are:

Obesity: Obesity is one of the main causes of gallstones formation. It is the biggest cause for occurrence of gallstones in women. According to scientific researches obesity reduces bile salts level in bile duct which leads to the production of extra cholesterol that is a big factor in formation of gall stones.

Estrogen: The secretion of estrogen hormones in women during pregnancy is also a cause of gallstones. It effects the movement of gall bladder and increases the production of cholesterol level in bile duct that leads to formation of gallstones.

Ethnicity: The geographical factors are also responsible for the occurrence of gallstones. Generally North Americans are more prone towards gallstone disorder. The Mexican people also have a higher tendency of acquiring gallstone disorder.

Gender: The risk of occurrence of gallstones is higher in case of women than men. Generally women between the ages of 40 to 60 are more likely to suffer from this disorder.

Age: The old age people are more prone towards this disorder than younger ones. People over the age of 60 have more chances of gallstone occurrence.

Fasting: Fasting can imbalance the body metabolism. It can also affect gallbladder movement which can cause more production of cholesterol causing gallstones.

Drugs: If someone is taking drugs to reduce cholesterol level inside the body then he is increasing cholesterol levels in bile ducts. Thus cholesterol reducing drugs are also responsible for gallstones formation.

Diabetes: The people suffering from diabetes have higher risk of acquiring gallstones because of the presence of more fatty acids referred as triglycerides in their body.

Sudden Weight Loss: If you are following a weight loss program than the chances of this disorder are high because it can lead to over secretion of cholesterol in bile duct which is the main cause of formation of gallstones.

Symptoms

The flow of gallstone inside the bile duct can put pressure on gallbladder due to which following symptoms or signs can be noticed:

  • Severe pain in the upper portion of abdomen that can stay for around 3o minutes.
  • Pain underneath right shoulder
  • Pain in the back.
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Clay Color stool
  • Fever
