Cirrhosis of the Liver - What is Cirrhosis?
Definition:Cirrhosis is a disease in which the liver becomes permanently damaged, and the structure of the liver is also altered. In cirrhosis, normal areas of liver are surrounded by scarred areas that do not function properly. Cirrhosis is a term that refers to a group of chronic diseases of the liver. Cirrhosis is defined histologically as "it is a diffuse hepatic process which is characterized by fibrosis". Cirrhosis is a process in the liver that is generally characterized on biopsy as having scarring and nodule formation. When this disease occurs, after that there is death of many, many liver cells. Cirrhosis may even lead to many complications such as mental confusion, coma, fluid accumulation (ascites), internal bleeding, and kidney failure.
