Cholera
Definition:It is an acute infectious disease of the small intestine which is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The another name of cholera is Asiatic cholera. It is characterized by ingestion of contaminated water or food. Cholera disease is a disease of the gastrointestinal tract. These bacteria are typically ingested by drinking contaminated water or by eating improperly cooked fish, especially shellfish. Contaminated water is common in areas with improper sanitation. A serious and often deadly infectious disease of the small intestine, cholera is an epidemic diarrhoeal disease. It is a devastating disease and sometimes may lead to fatal results with intense vomiting and profuse watery diarrhea leading to dehydration. Cholera is a water-borne disease. When left untreated cholera generally has a high mortality rate. Cholera is a serious condition. A severe case of cholera can lead to death without immediate treatment.
