Causes of Asthma

Asthmatic attacks may be caused by some substances that can trigger flare-up or by inflammation in the tubes (airways). The substances irritate the muscles near tubes and causes them to constrict therefore it leads to breathlessness. The factors that may cause Asthmatic attack are bacteria, dust, emotional upsets, smoking, climatic changes and animals like cats and dogs. Sudden asthma attack is usually caused by an upper respiratory tract infection or by an exposure to allergens.

Symptoms of Asthma

An adult or a child might be having an asthma attack if he has following symptoms -

  • Rapid breathing

  • Chest pain

  • Wheezing

  • Over inflation of the chest

  • Infection

  • Trouble breathing

  • Chest tightening
