Causes of Acne

Acne Menu

Acne is caused by the over activity of the sebaceous glands that secrete oily substances onto the skin.

Propionibacterium acnes is name of the bacteria which is the main cause of acne. This bacteria increases the hair follicles during puberty. People with acne have more Propionibacterium acnes in their follicles than people without acne. Due to the presence of this bacteria, it attracts white blood cells to the follicle. These white blood cells produce an enzyme that damages the wall of the follicle.

Some important factors which causes the acne:

  • Hormones - At the time of adolescence, androgen hormones become active and stimulate oil glands in your skin, ultimately resulting in the production of high amount of oil. That causes the formation of pimples and blackheads.
  • Diet - Till some extent, diet is also responsible for the acne. Irregular diet condition may lead to formation of acne.
  • Washing your Face too often - Washing the face too often can also aggravate the skin, causing acne to occur.
  • Using greasy Skin Care Products and Oily Cosmetics - Any oily product which affects the oily duct may cause acne.
  • Medication - Some anti-inflammatory drugs have serious side effects. So due to the side effects of some drugs which include barbiturates, seizure medication and steroids - may lead to the formation of acne.
